Our
Nanobot Hotshots won the Regional Tournament at Sinclair
December 2nd, and moved on to state competition at the Nutter
Center, January 14th and 15th. Our team members did an incredible job,
keeping their cool under fire, having only 2 minutes and 30 seconds to
run nine robot missions. They excelled during the high-stakes
competition, getting the robot programs tweaked to score an incredible
302 points! At regional, they earned "Best Robot Design" and the first place position
of "Tournament Champion". I have put together a
slideshow from
our competition (5.59 MB, takes a while to download depending on your
computer and service).

PROJECT
The Nanobot
Hotshots researched nanoscience and nanotechnology as a possible
means for treating cancer.
Problem: Cancer is killing people every day.
Solution: Nanotechnology/Nanoscience may help treat or even
cure cancer. We need to find out more about it!
Research: Work is currently being done to find ways to
safely move nanoscience and nanotechnology tools into clinical
practice.
"In the fight against
cancer, nanotechnology introduces unique approaches to diagnosis
and treatment that could not even be imagined with conventional
technology. New tools engineered at sizes much smaller than a
human cell will enable researchers and clinicians to detect
cancer earlier, treat it with much greater precision and fewer
side effects, and possibly stop the disease long before it can
do any damage. Imagine a nanoparticle that can be used to light
up a tumor in an MRI, destroy cancer cells by converting
magnetic fields into heat, and allow the physician to visually
track the progress of treatment." -
