READ EVERY DAY..

400 minutes of Independent Reading per month is about 15 to 20 minutes of reading each night. The key is to find a good book, enjoy your reading, then log it on your calendar!

PRACTICE YOUR TARGET MATH FACTS EVERY DAY.. unless you have gotten a 100% on all four operations tests!
200 minutes is 5 to 10 minutes of facts practice each night. Choose five facts a week to study. This is the order in which your math facts should be mastered: 1.) Multiplication, 2.) Division, 3.) Subtraction, and 4.) Addition.

Homework Planner Note

IMPORTANT!

It is the students' responsibility to know their homework. Each student should keep track of homework by writing assignments in the homework planner each day.

2009-2010 Homework Assignments

We don't all run at the same speed. We don't all like the same things. Fifth graders can't go to the shoe store and by 5th grade sized shoes. As learners, we are all different, too. We have strengths and weaknesses in different areas, and some of us learn better doing one kind of activity while others learn better doing another kind of activity. Because students may be assigned homework that is not exactly the same for everyone else, homework is posted on my website in this way:

  • Monday through Friday - Every day students will have a math assignment. Additionally, students who have not mastered their math facts should practice their target operation, based on their most recent math facts test, at home and track their practice on a math calendar.
  • Monday through Thursday - Students will have spelling/vocabulary to work on each week with a test on Friday.
  • Other homework - Students may also need to study for tests, do projects, work on OAT reviews, or other special assignments as announced in class.
  • Monthly - Students will need to track their independent reading on a monthly calendar.
  • Once a grading period - Students are required to read a book from the "Required Four" reading list once per grading period, and present a book project to the class.

Homework

Homework, oh homework,

I hate you, you stink,

I wish I could wash you

Away in the sink!
