The First Days of School
by Mrs. Nettling

Our first day back to school was August 26th. We started that first day by meeting in the gym, as class by class was called to come to the front and meet their teacher. Before letting 5th graders go to their classrooms, Mr. Starkey took a few minutes to talk to us about being the oldest ones in the building and how he expects us to set the good example for the rest of the students. Then we left the gym and went to our new classroom.

We spent a lot of time the first three days moving in to our new classroom, desks, and lockers. We found out where everything is in the classroom, and learned a lot about expectations and rules for the year. There were a lot of papers to read and take home for parents to fill out. We also got to find out our schedule, and were relieved to see that lunch, recess, and specials are still on our daily schedule! On Monday we took home our first "Take Home Folder" with graded papers and notes for our parents. By the end of August, our parents had done more homework than we had!

In those first few days of school, we also did some school work and learned some things. Each day Mrs. Nettling has added a little more to our warm-up work, and we are already getting through all of it in a shorter amount of time. We are reading a fun novel called Top Secret. We can't tell you what it's about because it's top secret! We are reviewing character traits, learning about photosynthesis and the role of plants, learning about parts of speech, learning about geography, and learning about number rules. We've even done some math magic! Each day after lunch and recess, we have been going to the computer lab to practice our facts, learn and practice keyboarding skills, and work to identify all the states on a U.S. map. We are already having fun in 5th grade!

 ENTERTAINMENT BOOK KICK OFF CONVENTION

Today Mrs. Nettling’s class had the Entertainment Book Fundraiser kick off. A lady came in and told us about the prizes we could win.  She also told us how to sell them. After that she told us about a few other stuff. Such as: how to get the prizes, how to get extra rewards, how much it cost, and how to sell to who are in other states. That’s what happened in the convention.

FUNNIES

Ten tigers talking to two turtles in three trees.

What’s black white and red all over?
A sunburned penguin!

What’s black, white, has 16 wheels and falls?
A zebra with roller skates!

SQUARE NUMBERS

In math we learned about square numbers. To get a square number you have to multiply that number by itself. We also learned about ^ (powers). ^ With a number before it, means that number however many times. For example, 52=5 x5=25. That’s what we learned in math today.

In class today we started the day off with warm up, which included Math boxes, DLR, and Geography.  We also went over our calendars.  On the way back from the restrooms we helped Mrs. Nettling unload her car. Then we got our take home folders and papers. In Math we learned about factor strings and factor trees. To end our morning we set personal goals to be competent kids. At lunch some people talked to the boys about Cub Scouts. We had a great morning.

After lunch we went to the Computer Lab to practice our Math facts, do our Type to learn lesson, and practice our States.  When we got back to the room we read TOP SECRET.  We also read about Photosynthesis.  At 2:15 we went to Gym.  The day was VERY COOL!!!!

Math

No Blanks! Mrs. Nettling reminded us today not to leave blanks on our papers. She slowly says NO BLANKS then rewinds (sknalbon).

Decimals

Caleb gets into a long conversation about decimals. Mrs. Nettling showed and taught Caleb how to do the lesson in 5 minutes or less! Isn’t that amazing!

White Boards

We used white boards for the first time today. Mrs. Nettling had us guess prime numbers, do addition, and make Factor trees.

Computer Lab
In computer lab we played either Turbo Math Facts or Number Munchers. Then when Mrs. Nettling told us to, we started Type To Learn, When we were done we started States Level 1.

Top Secret (Reading)
While we were reading Top Secret we read chapter 8. In that chapter Allen Brewster started growing roots. He also saw a psychiatrist. Allen claims that he is a plant, but no one believes him.

On Friday September the 11th Mrs.Nettling’s class had a very fun day of learning. First they did their warm-ups. Then they checked over their homework. Next the class did place value on their white boards. Eventually they went over unit 1 math review on Mrs. Nettling's smart board. Afterwards the students did some BrainPop quizzes about associative property, commutative property, and square roots. Finally, it was lunchtime.

For lunch the kids got to enjoy “brunch for lunch”. The boys played soccer at recess. The teams were Mrs.Nettling vs. Mrs.Johnson. When recess was over the class went to lab. They did Turbo Math facts, Number Munchers, Type to Learn, and geography review. Later on, they read Top Secret. Afterwards they had a review over plant vocabulary. At last they had music. They were as loud as an atomic bomb. That’s what happened on Friday September the 11th in Mrs.Nettling’s 5th grade class.

Today in Mrs. Nettling's class we started the day doing warm-up. Warm-up is an exercise where we do five worksheets to jump start our brains. These worksheets cover subjects like math, language arts, and geography. We work on warm-up until 9:00.

Following warm-up we passed out papers such as homework and a field trip application to Sunwatch Indian village for October 1. Sunwatch Indian Village is supposed to be better than Fort Ancient was last year. Mrs. Nettling said, "Please have them back by September 18. That is this Friday."

Next we checked our warm-up papers. When we finished this, Caleb asked a question about the trapezoid. We looked up the definition in our math book and learned the trapezoid has four sides with two sides being parallel. It also must have two angles being the same.

Afterwards we did math, lunch, and recess. We had chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, and milk for lunch, immediately followed by 15 minutes of recess. We had 15 minutes because we have behaved very well for the past week and a half. [Editor's note: Each day the class earns points for extra recess, and have already earned two full recesses!]

When recess was finished we went to computer lab. Some students did math facts while others did Number Munchers. Math facts is a program that teaches simple math facts such as single digit multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. Number Munchers is a game that teaches prime numbers, factors of certain numbers, and multiples of certain numbers.

Following computer class we did a project on globes. the globe project was about making your own globe. The globe is made by labeling the continents and oceans on a map that is later changed into a globe. After labeling the map, we colored all the continents except Antarctica. Tomorrow we will turn the map into a globe.

Finally, we finished out the day going to art class. We continued work on illuminated letters that we started two weeks ago. We write the first letter of our name on a piece of paper and decorated it. We used pencils to outline our letter and markers to decorate around it. We finished the day in art class and went home afterwards.

Today was a normal day at school. We worked on math, language arts, geography, social studies, and art. the most exciting part of the day was working on the globe. I also enjoyed lunch and recess.

Today at warm up Mrs. Nettling announced that we will be moving desks. She also said she had to go to a meeting. She is president of the teacher association. At morning announcements Mr. Starkey said “There will be no D.A.R.E today.” And for the second time! That is what happened at warm up.

Math Call!

In math we had a pretest. Our sub told us we had till 11:00 to finish the test. But we all finished at about 10:40! At that time we took a restroom break. We also did partial differences and subtracted. We even did Math Magic!

Interview express!

What do you feel about Mrs. Nettling? Ashley’s point of view about herself in 5th grade is “I like Mrs. Nettling, she’s really nice! Everybody in the class is my friend! My favorite school lunch is Brunch for Lunch. Science and Social Studies is my best subject. I love the smart board. It is so PRETTY!”

[Editor's note: Students took the 2009 5th Grade OAT as a pretest to see what they may already know so that we can focus on those things they still need to learn.]

Today we had a whacky Wednesday. First we had a bus evacuation drill. That's where you practice getting off the bus in case something would happen. Then when we got to the class and some of us finished our globes, followed by morning work. Next we looked at other people's Daily News.

Next we looked at a gourd ghost that Hannah made. Then we went over yesterday's morning work. When we were going over morning work, some people would not ask questions. Mrs. Nettling said "Don't be afraid to ask questions. Even Einstein asked questions."

After that we got in groups and did a math page. Afterwards we went over it. Then we wrote in our journals.

Next we went to lunch, then recess. After that we went to computer lab. Then we read our book Call it Courage.

Next a sub came in and we took a math test retest. The day was coming to an end and we got our homework and stuff ready to go home. The last excitement of the day was music class, where we played four corners.

Today in Mrs. Nettling’s class, we started off the day by doing out daily warm up. This is what Mrs. Nettling calls our dry work, the work that we want to get done first so we can have fun with our other work for the rest of the day. Our daily warm up usually contains one page of our math journal, math vocabulary (words that we write in our math composition books), DLR, and daily geography. Sometimes, we will have a science or math packet along with our dry work.  Afterwards, we read until 9:00 AM. Then we took a redo test over unit one.  When we were done, we checked over our warm up and our test.  Then we reread chapter one of the book, Call It Courage.  We also worked on a reader’s response packet for the book.

We headed to lunch when we were done.  Today we had a choice between a hot dog, a pretzel, or chicken and noodles.  Afterwards it was time for recess.  There‘s usually a soccer game, a football game, and kickball game going on during recess.  If you don’t want to participate in these games, there is also a playground.

From recess we went straight to the computer lab.  Here we got on three websites, Turbo Math Facts, Type to Learn and Mrs. Nettling’s Social Studies website. Then we checked our homework when we got back. Eventually, we did a fun math lesson called Grab-It Gauge, then we did hillbilly math.  This is a lesson that contains a fun song and cool props.

Finally, to wrap up the day, we had library as our special.  We also made bookmarks with our name and picture on them. Our library teacher, Mrs. St. Jacques, said, “Your book marks look great!”  It was a fun filled day in Mrs. Nettling’s class.

We had a lot of fun today at school. First, we had our warm-up. Our warm-up is our morning work. We had Drops in a Bucket number 29, math page 42, math vocabulary -maximum, minimum, range, mode, and mean. We also had to do Friday’s DLR and geography. We finished our science packet. Then, we did silent reading. After that, we took a restroom break.

When we got back, we checked over our warm-up. Afterwards, we took another restroom break. We went to lunch. We had stuffed crust pizza for lunch. After that, we went to recess. Our class went to computer lab. We played Turbo Math Facts and Type to Learn computer games. That was really a lot of fun! Finally, we took our spelling test and turned in our spelling homework. Some of our spelling words were courage and coward. Then we learned about the probability meter. That was fun too!

Next, we did hillbilly math. That was really fun to do. We sang a song about “Mean”. Here it is. "Add up all the numbers, count how many there were, divide by that number, you’ve got the mean for sure! da da da da da da  yeeha!" We had a straw hat  and a bandana on while we were singing. We also danced like a hillbilly. Mrs. Nettling took lots of pictures and a few videos. That was my favorite thing we did today!

Finally, we read Call it Courage chapter 2. The book is about a boy that lives on an island. His father wasn’t proud of him, so he went to sea on a canoe. He took his dog Uri with him. He finally got to another island. Will he be able to survive on that island? Then, we filled out our homework planner. We left for the buses. This was a very fun day!

Today in class we did our warm up, went over it, and went to the bathroom. When we came back we finished going over our math, and we had Deputy Dunaway from D.A.R.E come in, and we all talked about his items and utensils, my favorite was the taser and how it connects to the two parts like the handle piece and how it shoots extra feet out, and how the barrel piece will give more of an effect when it hits you.

After that we finished the rest of our warm up, we went to lunch, and after that we went to recess. We came in and we got out our  math books and did partner work a little bit, went over it and got out reading we are reading a book called Call It Courage. We filled out a pamphlet about chapter 1, then we sang a song that goes like, "Put your reading away don't delay help Mrs Nettling have a happy day, help Mrs Nettling have a happy day-- ."  Anyway we did this other song called "Hillbilly Math". It's fun! After that we all got our backpacks and went to music.

[Editor's Note: The "Put Your Things Away" song was from the children's show hosted by the late, great Uncle Al; the "Hillbilly Math" song is a Nettling original.]

To start off the day some people went to breakfast, got taken to school, or rode the bus. At 8:15 everyone was in the class room doing our daily warm up which includes D.L.R, geography, a new thing called logic lollipops, drops in a bucket, math vocabulary, and math boxes. We had a busy morning.

After warm up we took a restroom break and then came back and started our math lesson for the day. We learned about lattice multiplication. Did you know that lattice multiplication is so old that even Egyptians used it? Then we had to do a math paper over the lattice multiplication. It was kind of hard.

At 11:05 we started reading. We are reading a cool book called Call It Courage. Mrs. Nettling said we were going to reread the first two chapters because we got a new student! We started reading and then it was time for lunch.

At lunch we had a choice of grilled cheese and tomato soup or a chicken sandwich. Then after lunch we went out to recess where the boys usually play basketball and the girls usually play soccer. My friends and I usually play soccer. It’s really fun!

After recess was over we went to the restroom again then we came back to the room and started reading again. After we were done reading we had to do a reading packet. After that we went to music and learned a new song and dance. Then it was time to go home.

This morning when everyone arrived in the classroom we started warm up.  At 9:00 every day we take a restroom break.  Then after all of us finish morning work we check it.  But before that we figured out the daily news person.  Probably over half of the class raised their hands, and I was one of them. I got picked. Since I sit by the clipboards and forms Mrs. Nettling said, “Sydney will you hook Sydney up?’’ Then we started checking our morning work. Every morning we have to check math boxes, DLR, geography, and drops in a bucket.

Before lunch we watched a movie about math. We didn’t have enough time to finish it, so we continued it after lunch and recess. Then we came back and went into the computer lab for a half hour. We practiced math facts on turbo math, type to learn, and went on Mrs. Nettling’ s website to practice our states.

At the end of the day we finished our movie. We only had about five or ten minutes left of it.  Afterwards we did our state test. It was not anything exciting. When we all finished we checked it our self with a study guide or an atlas. We started chapter three in our book, Call it Courage. We ran out of  time and had to go to library. Right in the middle we had a fire drill. We watched a preview for the book fair books. That is all we did today.

Today turned out to be a great Monday. At the beginning of the day, we started Lego robotics. Mrs. Nettling gave us the names of all the pieces, such as an axle, the brain and all the cables. After that, we started playing with the Legos. Each group got to build a robot, share it with the class and write down any questions. It was better than recess.

After robotics, we started math. Mrs. Nettling said, “Get out your white boards and markers.” We reviewed what we had learned for the test. First, we reviewed magnitude estimate and then place value. After that, we reviewed some landmarks, such as maximum, minimum, range, median and mean. Math was not as exciting as Legos.

Art came next. We had finished our first project, illuminated letters, last week so we started a new project today. Miss Hurley let us know we were going to make castles out of clay. We each picked a partner, then went to the computer lab to research castle parts. It was as cool as the temperature in the computer lab. When we were done, we went back to the art room. For a Monday, it was awesome.

This is what Mrs. Nettling’s class did on September 29, 2009. First we started with are warm-up. We had math, D.L.R; geography, and reading. But it was interrupted by D.A.R.E. After that we had our tests over nouns and math. Mrs. Nettling played music on her radio for us. Then we finished our warm-up. Lunchtime!

We were having pretzels, yogurt, and milk. I sat by Jordan, Kyle, Adam, Austin, and James.  We ate then went out for recess. Some of the boys played soccer with me, like Austin, Nicholas, and Kyle. We didn’t keep score. Then we went in.

Then we graded our tests. Adam got an A+ on his math test. He is probably the best math student in our class. Mrs. Nettling said that she will give him a harder test next time. After that we read chapter 4 of our book Call it Courage. Then we responded to that chapter in our response packet.  It is a good book.

At 2:00 we did our planner and went to our lockers. We lined up on our lockers and talked to each other. Then we went to gym. We did our fitness then played pinball. In pinball we have to kick it and try to hit the pins over. Then the bell rang and we went home.

Morning time

Today in class we have a good time with Mrs. Nettling! First, this morning we did warm up, went to the restroom, and went to book fair. At book fair you get money and buy any book that’s there. Mrs. Nettling got a list of books for our own classroom library. We went over our math homework this morning too. That was our morning in Mrs. Nettling’s class.

Math Lesson

Today in math we learned and talked about angle measures. It was a good educational lesson of math. We had  a math quiz about rays, lines, points, and lastly line segments. We also had questions from students, for awhile I was confused but now I understand! That was our math lesson for today.

Free Time

Next, we had lunch. It was good. We had Walking Taco, Green Beans, Cinnamon Apples, Breadstick, and lastly Milk to drink. When a teacher let us throw away our trash we went to recess. I  had so much fun playing with my friends at recess.

Social Studies

I had a good time learning in Social Studies.

We learned about archeologist and when people first moved to our land. To help us like Social Studies better if we didn’t like it Mrs. Nettling said, “think of Social Studies as a story from long ago and imagine  you’re there.”  After that, we also watched three movies to help us understand what we are learning.

We watched one about archeology, Bill Nye, and we watched a clip about Sunwatch Indian village, our field trip tomorrow! That was our awesome social studies lesson.

Wrap it Up Time!

After our Social Studies lesson we had to wrap up and go to music class. In music class we learned about some of the rap for the U.S.A. Later, the announcements came on and the “Bus and Bowl” program left to get on the bus. When the bell rang for the other students we darted out the door, got our bags and we were long gone. That was our awesome day in class with Mrs. Nettling!

October 1st

Ashley C.

Today is a very special day.  We didn’t have much time this morning because we were going on a field trip. This will be so much fun. It’s the first field trip of the year and we went to Sunwatch Indian village!

We had a very short math lesson on protractors. We did a page on how to use protractors. The page was just about learning how to use them. The page wasn’t all that hard, it was easy as pie. Right after our math we got all prepared for our field trip.

Mrs.Nettling prepared us for the field trip.  See, what we did was pass around different objects and think about what they might be. We were acting kind of like archeologists. It’s fun but kind of hard. So far everyone has seen a giant whisk looking thing but it was actually an old time vacuum cleaner, a plane (you smooth wood with it), a funnel shaped strainer, a lamp knob from an antique lamp, a juicer, and a thing from a computer. Then we got on the bus and were ready to go.

I sat with Anna while Hannah and Annie sat in front of us.  Out the school parking lot and onto the road, our bus driver thought we were going to the fruit farm instead of Sunwatch. Then she got back on track. I couldn't wait to get there.

We have finally got to Sunwatch Indian village. When we got off the bus the first thing we did was eat lunch.  These bees kept pestering everyone so Mrs. Nettling was on bee patrol. She just kept the bees away from us if they annoyed us too much.

After lunch everyone went in the visitor building and watched a movie about Sunwatch. It told us things like what they have found in Sunwatch, what they know, and what they think. Also it told us about the life style of the Indians. It was very interesting.

In the museum the tour guide showed us the tools that the Indians used. Then we went outside and walked around in the Indian village. We went into an Indian house and learned all about what they done. The house was interesting.

When we got out of the house we played a game called “chunky”. In chunky, one person throws a little disc and the rest of the people try to hit it with an arrow.  It’s harder than you think.

We went into the house called “The Big House”.  We passed around instruments and got to play them. That was a very fun part. Next we went to see an Indian garden.  They taught the class how they used gardens back then. Did you know that back then they used people to scare crows away? It was very neat that even back then they grew gardens.

After all that fun we had to leave, I really didn’t want to leave. I’m sure you wouldn’t either. Then we got on the bus and went back to school.  Finally when we got back to school, Mrs. Nettling gave us all a souvenir. They were arrowheads.

Then we discussed what our favorite part of the field trip was.  Finally, we left the classroom and went to music.  We played “Four Corners” in music class.  Then our exciting day was over and we went home.  What a fun day!

Today was really cool; it was hats on day for cancer. Everybody who donated got to wear a hat all day (There were some crazy hats.)  I wore an American flag hat and my friend said, “We should say the pledge of allegiance to your hat.” The first thing we did today was our warm up and a science test, it took us awhile to check over that test.

Right before we went to lunch we took another test but this time it was a spelling test, fingers crossed for an A+.  When we went out for recess I played basketball with some friends. I'm not sure who won, I hope it was my team.

After recess we had a restroom break and went to the computer lab.  We learned more about Lego robotics like the brain, motor and different wires. We did some funny experiments with the different parts. My group is trying to make a task robot.

Before we went home, we had gym.  We played kick ball and rim ball. It was an awesome day.

Nicholas

To start the day, we did our warm up.  We had to finish our work from Friday morning. We also had a verbs packet, a synonym and antonym packet, and our character traits packet. Our synonym and antonyms packet was hard to most of the class. We were mostly stuck on the crossword puzzle, because we had to find the antonym of the word they gave us. [Mrs. Nettling let the class work on it with partners.] The other packets, we zipped through.

Finally it was lunch. We had chicken nuggets for lunch today. Once that and recess were finished we went to computer lab. Most of us did Turbo Math facts. The fraction of us that were excused,  got to get on Mrs. Nettling’ s website and did a couple games on that. After that we always do a Type to learn lesson. Today we did lesson 11 to 13. Most of us only got finished with lesson 11 only, because it was harder than climbing Mount Everest. Finally we were finished at the computer lab.

After lunch we started the last chapter in Call It Courage. The last time we read the book we finished chapter four.  In the last chapter, Mafatu killed a shark and an octopus. We finally read chapter five. Mafatu heard a beat, thump, thump, thump. He assumed right away it was the eaters of men. He hadn’t checked the plateau the afternoon before, so he did not know if the eaters of men had been coming or not. He had been finishing his canoe instead. He watched them as they had a huge fire and they sang weird songs. He heard a couple of eaters of men pulling on to shore behind him. He rushed through the path to his canoe, so he could leave before they caught him.

Then we did some stuff backwards. We did our take home folders before our math lesson. We did it like this, because we were running out of time and we still had special. Number threes passed out papers and take home folders. We had a lot of papers to pass out.

Eventually, we learned our math lesson. It was an easy math lesson for most of us. We learned about intersecting lines and the degrees of their angles. We figured out that if one side is 60 degrees the opposite or vertical angle is 60 degrees too. Mrs. Nettling told us always to tear out our homework while she‘s telling us to, so we don’t forget to. We had a crazy day!

Today our warm up was very short because most of us were done with last weeks  warm up. We had gym early today because of the Third Grade Ohio Achievement  Test. In D.A.R.E. today we put on goggles with an  alcohol  level of 0.70. We were way off balance! Later we all took a state and wrote down information  about then we put them on the wall but it was very frustrating because  2 states were flip flopped  (Wyoming and Colorado) and one state was missing. We got through math in record time, for after that we got to play with Lego Robotics.

Today, like a lot of other mornings we started the day with warm-up. Warm-up consisted of a math page called Drops in a Bucket, a page in our math journal, daily geography, DLR (daily language review), and then silent reading. We also added something new today, which was an antonyms and synonyms packet.

After warm-up we went to work with the Lego Robotics. Mrs. Nettling said, “Our goal is to have this Taskbot finished by today.” She also showed us a team competition video and it was really neat. The challenge that year was “A Mission to Mars” and this year’s challenge is “Smart Move”.  We spent more time with the Lego’s today than we usually do and that made it an exceptionally fun day. Lego Robotics are awesome!

Next was lunch. The students who bought their lunch today had beefy soft tacos, breadstick, corn on the cob, and cinnamon apples. I didn’t really like the lunch menu , so I packed today. After lunch was recess, but some of us stayed in to finish our Taskbot, since the goal was to finish it.

Following recess was computer lab. We did Turbo Math facts. Next was Type to Learn and then we watched another Lego Robotics video [which was part of our engineering tutorial]. Computer lab is one of my favorite parts of the day!

Math was next. We Identified different shapes in our math journal and then checked our work. Our math class is usually longer, and we usually have more to do, but I think it was shorter since the Legos took more time today.

Once math was finished we filled out our planners, made sure we had our homework, and got ready to go to music. That was our last class of the day.  We learned about a lot of instruments from the renaissance period and got to hear them on Mrs. Fitzpatrick’s computer. Finally, it was time to go home and the end to a really good early release Wednesday.

Today at school we checked drops in a bucket then we did our homework. We cut out our game activity and played polygon capture. Our teacher taught us how to play. You play by having a deck of cards, a pile of polygons, and a teammate. We had a lot of fun!

When we went to lunch kids had a great time, a kid told great jokes and made everyone laugh HA-HA. We were not able to go outside because it rained a lot. We went to computer lab and did turbo math facts, add up all the numbers to a certain number, type to learn, then did robotics engineering. Computer lab is fun!

Then at math lessons we learned about tessellations. Tessellations are fun ways to think about shapes because you make patterns of one or more shapes. Pentagons and octagons are not regular tessellation shapes because it leaves gaps in between shapes and for it to be a regular tessellation shape it cannot have any gaps. Tessellations are interesting. School was very fun today!

Timed Tests! During Timed Tests everybody made major improvement. Some people even did so well that they only have to do one Timed Test every grading period! The other thing  we did in math was learning about partial quotients using friendly numbers.

We went to the Midland fundraiser assembly. There was a game where Kelly picked 14 people, 7 people on each team. Five people shot the rocket, one person held the hula hoop, and one person caught the rocket.  The object of the game was to see whose team could shoot the rocket, hand it off to the next person, and sit down the fastest. My team lost by a milli-second.

LEGO Robotics was fun. Pretty much everyone should have had a chance to download onto our robot by now. We were supposed to find out if we were on the LEGO robotics team or not, but Mrs. Nettling still had to check her mysterious plan with Mr. Starkey. Next time we do LEGO robotics we will probably be using the sensors. I’m so excited!

Over all we had a pretty good day today, we got almost everything we had to do today done. We still have a few papers to check and some tests on Tuesday. Other than that we have everything done. I can’t wait until Monday!

The Fantastic Friday!!!

Hi, I’m Adam, and I’m in Mrs.Nettling’s fifth grade class! Today is Friday, October 16, 2009. First we started our day by taking our geography test. Once that was over we took a restroom break.  Then after that the class finished their warm-ups. This consisted of our daily geography review, daily language review, math boxes, drops in the bucket (math skills), a book we’re reading called My Side of the Mountain, and then we just silent read. The warm-up was as easy as pie. For math all of us went over partial quotients with Mrs.Nettling.

For lunch we had Tony’s cheese pizza. At about 12:00 noon all of us went out for recess. After recess we decided to take a restroom break. Following that the class went to lab to do Turbo Math Facts, Circle Numbers, and Type to Learn. Next in lab we did Lego Robotics, or as Mrs. Nettling calls it “Playing with toys!” In robotics we started to program or telling the robot what to do! Finally we had gym. In gym the class played “Hot Feet” a game with beanbags. After that we had our football lesson. It was really fun. At the very end of the fun, exciting day we were dismissed!
